Discussion on the opportunities, challenges and paths of food and medicine to develop the Southeast

Asian market

Vietnam Hengyi Health and Medicine Trading Co., Ltd. Liu Hancun

【Abstract】Under the background of the policy support of RCEP (Regional Comprehensive

64Economic Partnership Agreement) and the rise of global natural health consumption, the overseasdevelopment of homogenous substances has become an important direction for theinternationalisation of the big health industry. Southeast Asia has a deep  foundation of herbal health culture, and it is a key area for the development of overseas markets for food products of the same origin. This article combines the cross-border business practice of Vietnam Hengyi Health and Medicine Trading Co., Ltd., analyses the opportunities for food and homogenous substances to enter the Southeast Asian market, and analyses the practical problems such as different regulatory standards, complex registration processes,  insufficient localisation adaptation, certification barriers and weak brand competitiveness in various countries. Research shows that the domestic model cannot be copied when food and medicinal substances of the same origin go to sea. We should strictly abide by the bottom line of compliance, promote the localisation and upgrading of products and publicity, give full play to the role of a bridge for local trade enterprises, open up the whole chain of raw material

supply and channel distribution, and promote the coordinated development of traditional food and breeding abroad and industrial economic benefits.

【Discussion】RCEP has brought dividends such as tariff reduction and convenient customs clearance. The number

of sub-healthy people in Southeast Asia has increased, and the public's demand for natural herbal health care has continued to rise. In addition, the local traditional medicine culture and the Chinese consumption base have provided a good market environment for food homogeneous substances to go abroad. Vietnam Hengyi Health and Medicine Trading Co., Ltd. is deeply engaged in Sino-Vietnam health trade, seeing market opportunities in business practice, but also finding many practical obstacles. ASEAN has not yet established unified product access standards. Different countries havedifferent classifications of food, functional food and traditional drugs. Some domestic raw materials

of the same origin of food need to be re-declared and registered locally, with long cycles and high compliance costs. There are differences between the domestic food catalogue and local regulatory catalogues. Some raw materials lack local safety assessment data. Overseas medical efficacy publicity is strictly prohibited, and domestic propaganda cannot be directly used. In terms of the market, local herbal products and European and American dietary supplements are fiercely competitive. Most domestic products are mainly exported from raw materials, and the degree of branding of finished products is low. In Indonesia, Malaysia and other Muslim countries, halal certification is a necessary

condition for entering mainstream channels, and many domestic enterprises lack relevantqualifications. In response to the above problems, enterprises should prior compliance work, sort out the regulatory requirements for different countries, improve quality testing, standardise multilingual labels, and handle halal and GMP certification on demand. Based on the characteristics of Southeast Asian diet and climate, optimise the product dosage form, develop herbal tea, health powder and other suitable products, adjust the publicity calibre, and focus on natural maintenance and other compliance expressions. Give full play to the advantages of local trading enterprises, connect local pharmaceutical

enterprises, pharmacies, supermarkets and e-commerce platforms, open up supply chains anddistribution channels, and  strengthen exchanges between Chinese and foreign traditional medicine, accumulate local safety data, and improve product recognition.

【Summary】The Southeast Asian market provides a broad space for the internationalisation of substances of the same origin of pharmaceuticals, but going abroad is not a simple export of goods, but a comprehensive implementation of compliance, products, channels and culture. Relying on local pharmaceutical trade enterprises to build bridges, adhere to compliance first, promote product localisation and improvement, and improve channel construction, only by promoting the rooting of pharmaceutical substances of the same origin in Southeast Asia and realising a win-win situation for the dissemination of traditional food culture and the high-quality development of cross-border industries.
