Effectiveness evaluation and pattern recognition based on real-world data and machine learning
Abstract:Chronic skin diseases are not simple surface lesions, but long-term systemic wasting diseases. Its core
characteristics are chronic delay, repeated attacks, and poor treatment tolerance, which constitutes a significant public
health burden.
Keyword:The core advantage of the application of medicinal food and food in the treatment of skin diseases lies in its
"safety, mild and lasting effect, and overall conditioning", which makes up for the structural shortcomings of the
current Western medicine treatment of "insufficient safety of long-term use and easy recurrence of drug suspension".
Disease burden and unmet clinical needs
1.The "disaster" of chronic skin disease lies in its chronic erosion: it grinds the patient's dignity, patience and wealth
little by little.
2.Atopic dermatitis (AD): The vicious circle of itching and scratching leads to fragmentation of sleep, and long-term
external use of hormones causes the treatment paradox of "not to use, and it is not good to stop".
3.Psoriasis (PsO): It is easy to develop in young and middle age. It is not only skin damage, but also often accompanied
by metabolic syndrome and joint damage, leading to serious social and psychological shocks.
4.Acne and rose acne: The sequelae of inflammation (scars, erythema) are irreversible and accurately affect the mental
health of patients.
Core comparison: Long-term use of external glucocorticoids will lead to skin atrophy, capillary dilatation, and further
damage to the barrier; systemic immunosuppressants (such as cyclosporine and methotrexate) have the risk of liver and
renal toxicity and infection. After the patient uses hormones for a long time, the skin receptor is down-regulated. Once
the drug is stopped, there will be a violent rebound (redness and swelling, exudation is aggravated).
Advantages of the same origin of medicinal food: Substances listed in the catalogue of the National Health
Commission (such as poria, yam, lily, honeysuckle, etc.) have been verified for long-term consumption history and
have no obvious organ toxicity, which is suitable for long-term management of chronic disease maintenance. Products
of the same origin of medicinal food (especially those that strengthen the spleen and moisture, clear heat and detoxify)
can help patients get through the hormone reduction period smoothly and achieve "soft landing" by repairing the
barrier and regulating the immune homeosity.
Although medicinal and food products of the same origin are favoured because of their "natural and safe" properties,
their clinical applications in the field of skin diseases still face serious challenges:
Methods
Data preprocessing
This study builds a multi-modal database, and the data preprocessing follows the following process:
Terminology Standardisation Mapping Table
Establish a mapping table for specialised terms in dermatology
Results
This section will show the distribution after data cleaning, clinical efficacy evaluation results and big data insights.
1 Baseline characteristics and data quality: patient's age, gender, course of disease, baseline severity, etc.
2 For clinical efficacy evaluation: interactive items or layered cutting
3 Big data insight: do K-means / hierarchical clustering on the skin damage vector (for example:
erythema%/exudation%/mossification%/itching VAS/progic course five dimensions) to see how many clusters can
be divided
Discuss:By integrating real-world data and machine learning technology, this study systematically evaluates the
application value of medicinal food homology products in the management of skin diseases.
The main discovery:Medicinal-food homologenic intervention is outstanding in improving the subjective itching of
chronic mossy skin lesions, and can significantly reduce the dependent dose of external hormones. However, in the
acute exudation period, its effect alone is limited, and it still needs to be combined with short-term anti-inflammatory
treatment.
Limitations: This study is a retrospective design, and there are inherent selection bias and information bias. In the
future, it is necessary to carry out a prospective randomised controlled trial (RCT) to further verify the difference in
therapeutic effect of specific subtypes of human bodies found in this study.
