The development direction of food development and application of health products of the same

origin as medicinal food to go abroad

【Abstract】With the rise of non-drug intervention in global diseases, especially the establishment ofthe "International Alliance for the Scientific Application of Non-drug Interventions in Diseases" inParis, France in 2025, natural diet, medicinal food and the same source as China's characteristic healthindustry resources, have rich local food reserves and mature modern processing technology. Atpresent, there are still real bottlenecks such as low raw material development level, insufficientinternational standard docking, different standards, prominent compliancerisks, andproducthomogenisation in  China's medicinal and food products from overseas. Based on the perspective ofthe China-Europe Belt and Road International Cooperation Platform, this report systematically analyses the current situation of the development and application of medicinal food ingredients of the same origin, and analyses the opportunities and practical challenges faced by products to go abroad, focussing on the six dimensions of source food development, modern technology transformation, product innovation iteration, international compliance adaptation, standard mutual recognition, brand and channel construction. , put forward the layered, compliant and localised overseas development path, and provide academic reference for the high-quality international development of China's medicinal food health industry.

【Keyword】Medicine and food are of the same origin, Belt and Road Initiative, international standards, health industry, disease intervention, internationalisation

【Discussion】With the high incidence of chronic diseases in the world, countries pay more and more attention to

the value of dietary nutrition in the prevention of chronic diseases and non-drug intervention in diseases. The concept of "Food is Medicine" is widely spread in the international community. The demand for natural plant meal products in the European, American and Southeast Asian markets is growing rapidly, creating a market window for China's medicinal food ingredients and health products to go abroad.

I. China has a national catalogue of medicinal food sources, rich in local food resources, and modern processing technologies such as biological extraction, enzymatic lysis and membrane separation are becoming more and more mature. It has formed a complete industrial chain from raw material planting, in-depth processing to terminal products. Relying on the platform of the China-Europe Belt and Road Initiative of the Medicine and Food Health Industry Research Institute, carry out Sino-foreign industry exchanges, and promote the transformation of the advantages of medicinal food resources from domestic ingredients to competitive advantages in the international market.

II. The domestic medicinal food catalogue is not equal to the international access qualification, and the domestic food standards are not equal to the overseas regulatory standards. Many products are still in the primary export stage of raw materials, and the proportion of high-value-added finished products going abroad is not high, facing multiple obstacles such as regulatory barriers, insufficient evidence-based evidence, and cultural perception differences.

III. The regulatory systems of different countries are very different, and the domestic SC production license and the catalogue of medicine and food of the same origin cannot directly qualify for overseas market access.

IV. EU market: Some medicinal and food homo-sourced raw materials belong to "Novel Food", which needs to complete complex safety assessment and approval, and strict standards for agricultural residues and heavy metals; traditional efficacy expressions of traditional Chinese medicine are prohibited, and only health claims approved by EFSA are allowed to be used.

V. In the North American market, it is necessary to complete the FDA enterprise registration and the declaration of new dietary ingredients (NDI). Products can only use structural-function claims, and it is strictly forbidden to publicise the treatment of diseases.

VI. The access rules of Southeast Asian and Oceania markets and countries are different, and it is necessary to complete a series of procedures such as raw material filing, label localisation and plant quarantine.

VII. The formula, taste and dosage form of domestic products are mainly suitable for Chinese consumers. Overseas markets prefer soft candy, powder, portable small packaging and other forms. The diet structure and physical characteristics of overseas people are different from those in China, and it is easy to export domestic formulas directly.

【Summary】It is difficult for overseas consumers and regulatory authorities to understand the traditional oriental concepts such as "the same origin of medicine and food, the treatment of diseases, and the discrimination of food". If you directly use traditional Chinese medicine terms, you will face the risk of being removed from the shelves and punished. At the same time, it also highlights the need to transform the traditional nutrition concept into the international common term of scientific modern nutrition, preventive medicine, and non-drug intervention in diseases. And the production system is compared with the international GMP labelling, improving production records and

inspection reports, and meeting the audit requirements of overseas importers.
